5 Websites that let you create invoices for free

It is no doubt that Invoices are being used more than ever these days – Clients and employers are properly documenting payments made on a monthly or weekly basis for auditing in the future. Freelancers are also creating invoices for work done these days. I don’t have any data from a survey to prove all these but from experience, most clients will not pay you if you don’t send an invoice for a job done.

So here are 5 websites that let you create invoices for free.

Invoice.ng

Invoice.ng is free (per user/business) for life. It is highly customizable from logo to footer and there is a user guide on the invoice page for anyone who gets stuck while creating something fancy or looking for extra features. Apart from creating invoices and sending cost estimates to clients, you can also track & manage all business/personal expenses on invoice.ng

Waveapps

Although there is a pricing page on the website, Waveapps is 100% free. It’s not just an invoicing web app it’s an accounting software that makes it easier to run your entire business. Invoices are backed up, can be created in any currency, know when your invoices are viewed, Organize the content of your invoices with drag-and-drop line items and many more. All these for free. You don’t need a credit card to sign up.

Freshbooks

I used Freshbooks for almost all my invoices in 2017. It has the same features as the ones above. You can also charge late fees and automatically bill your clients recurringly with it.

Billdogg

Download as PDF, preview, print or save, Billdogg is simple and straightforward. And yes, it’s free. Billdogg makes money when you choose to let them and their partners facilitate payments for you. For example, if you choose to use their online payments feature via Stripe they’ll let them handle it and take a small percentage (0.5%) on top of it.

Createonlineinvoices.com

This invoicing website detects your location and suggests a currency format for that country. If you’re looking to give discounts within an invoice then use this as well

ClientJoy (Invoice Templates)

Clientjoy has over 100 Invoice Templates for Freelancers, Business Owners, Marketers and Agencies for free.

There are actually more free invoice generators out there, so if the one you use is not here kindly leave a comment below.
Be Awesome!

So you want to be a writer? – Charles Bukowski

if it doesn’t come bursting out of you
in spite of everything,
don’t do it.
unless it comes unasked out of your
heart and your mind and your mouth
and your gut,
don’t do it.
if you have to sit for hours
staring at your computer screen
or hunched over your
typewriter
searching for words,
don’t do it.
if you’re doing it for money or
fame,
don’t do it.
if you’re doing it because you want
women in your bed,
don’t do it.
if you have to sit there and
rewrite it again and again,
don’t do it.
if it’s hard work just thinking about doing it,
don’t do it.
if you’re trying to write like somebody
else,
forget about it.

if you have to wait for it to roar out of
you,
then wait patiently.
if it never does roar out of you,
do something else.

if you first have to read it to your wife
or your girlfriend or your boyfriend
or your parents or to anybody at all,
you’re not ready.

don’t be like so many writers,
don’t be like so many thousands of
people who call themselves writers,
don’t be dull and boring and
pretentious, don’t be consumed with self-
love.
the libraries of the world have
yawned themselves to
sleep
over your kind.
don’t add to that.
don’t do it.
unless it comes out of
your soul like a rocket,
unless being still would
drive you to madness or
suicide or murder,
don’t do it.
unless the sun inside you is
burning your gut,
don’t do it.

when it is truly time,
and if you have been chosen,
it will do it by
itself and it will keep on doing it
until you die or it dies in you.

there is no other way.

and there never was.

Piggyvest Vs ALAT: Which Should You be Using and Why?

Piggyvest and ALAT are…errr… I’m honestly trying to think up a way to start this article but my mind is racing faster than my hands. I feel like jumping right into it.

Piggyvest and Alat are two Fintech companies that let you save money and carry out other transactions on the platform from the comfort of your home. Alat is more of a bank than Piggyvest as it gives you a bank card and the opportunity to get a loan and also send money to other banks. But it’s not that easy, especially the “Loan” part.

In this post, I will break down the differences and similarities between these two and get you to answer the big question; Which should I be using?

Overview

They are both free. They both let you save, connect your bank card and refer other people who might be interested in saving on the platforms as well. You make some money (or get a commission) when you refer other users, of course. They both have Android and iOS Apps and also serve as a great alternative to an actual bank.

Registration

You can set up on both platforms in 5 minutes. But ALAT requires more details than Piggyvest . I think I remember ALAT asking for my BVN before I completed my registration. I am also required to add my International passport for some reason… identification… Identification.

Loans

Piggyvest only lets you save and earn points and interests as you do so but does not give loans. ALAT, on the other hand, gives loans but you’d have to upgrade your ALAT account to either Flexi Plan, Fixed Plan or Stash to get a loan. These plans come with extra features or benefits, you can withdraw your interests on the Stash plan for example.

Interests

Piggyvest gives interests if your money is Safelocked. The Safelock feature lets you lock any of your savings ahead of time. You get 0.99% interest (in 34 days) for any amount of money safelocked. ALAT gives you interests based on the duration of your goal. But to create a goal, you’d have to upgrade your ALAT account. ALAT gives up to 10% interest in 12 months by the way.

Banking & Withdrawal

ALAT is a digital bank. You can literally bank with it. Piggy Bank is more like a… well, a Piggy bank. Piggyvest also lets you accept payments. I talked about it earlier here.

Since ALAT is like an actual bank that gives you a bank card for withdrawals, you can withdraw physical cash, pay bills and make transfers with it. Piggy Bank, on the other hand, lets you accept payments and withdraw your money to an actual bank account before cashing out.

Payments

You can buy airtime and pay your bills on ALAT. Piggyvest , on the other hand, doesn’t have this particular feature because they want you to save, obviously.

User Experience & Customer Service

“They both have Amazing UIs”, according to Sam who is a UI expert. I referred two people to Piggyvest but they couldn’t add their bank cards (to save with) for some reason. PiggyBank is very active on Instagram if you’re interested in speaking with them. I became interested in using ALAT at TEDx Ikeja 2017 when a representative talked about it. I haven’t really contacted their customer service but their card delivery was on time and also FREE.

So that’s all folks. ALAT is more of a bank than Piggyvest . Piggyvest is more of a… Piggy Bank or a fixed deposit account. Piggyvest helps you save more if you’re the type that just can’t follow the budget.

Which would you use and why? Don’t forget to use my referral code (4RFRB6) if you’re registering on ALAT for the first time or Click here to get a free Piggyank account. Ciao!

Even Kendrick Lamar Was Laughed At

0

Dido’s 2012 single “Let us move on” is one song I go searching for when I buy a new phone. Why do I like the song? Kendrick Lamar’s words that almost gets me teary…

Got a new phone, went searching and I saw the comments on this song. Some people were making fun of Kendrick while the rest came for Dido. The top comment was “I just checked it out, biggest waste of time, you’re garbage man. Just go to school and get a job like the rest of us.”
It took several more years for it to blow, but it’s interesting to note the song as the breakthrough for what was to come. Kendrick Lamar made more songs and won awards. Still winning

Learn from this!

People will doubt you, make fun of you… You have to believe in yourself. Keep going

PiggyLink: You Can Now Accept Payments With PiggyBank

I wrote a long post a few days ago about Piggybank and some Ideas you should be investing in right now. You can read all about it here.

Piggylink: The Magic of Piggybank

So one of the new interesting features that PiggyBank recently added is the PiggyLink feature. The Piggylink feature helps you accept payments from anyone with your piggyBank account. What makes the PiggyLink feature really cool is that the users making the payments (to you) don’t have to be registered on PiggyBank to send you money. I tested the feature before this post and it only took 3 minutes. I also noticed the payment was accepted by RAVE. I thought they use Paystack?

Anyways, according to PiggyBank, The PiggyLink ensures you don’t spend money you earn with ease and I think it’s a great Idea. I also think it’d be even more awesome if the money received (from anyone who sends you money with your piggylink) goes straight to safelock… or a setting that lets you choose if you want all your money to go straight to safelock as you save… or not. Safelock lets you lock up your savings and gives you up to 30% Interest upfront for not touching the money. Some fixed deposit shit right there. You can SafeLock all or parts of your Piggybank.ng savings and get it back at a convenient time you set. (You can create multiple SafeLocks as well).

You can set up and start using the PiggyLink feature by Logging in to your PiggyBank account and going to Settings -> Account Settings -> PiggyLink Settings.

Do you need a bank account to register on PiggyBank and start accepting payments? Nope. You can register here for free

Here’s my PiggyLink in case you want to say thank you for this post or just test it.

Also, let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. That’d be Awesome.

Losing Selfies With Emma Ohmagod and Vsix’s Birthday

I wrote a review on Emmahohmagod’s Loyal (Chris Brown parody) video in 2014. You can still read it here. I basically talked about how much we liked Emmahohmagod and how that particular video sucked. It was horrible, the video, I mean. A lot of people read the review and some liked it and agreed with me, one of them was Vsix Ejechi – Happy Birthday Vsix. A journalist and Library advocate, Six later assisted us at bookclubs.com.ng and is still part of the team. We are glad to have him amongst us.

I’m writing this to explain how I met Vsix (to mark his birthday) but back to Emmaohmagod’s review and what I learned from it.

Well, one morning, I got a Job at Cool FM through an OAP. I became her PR and content creator, some of you know her. I would later work from (and live) at the staff quarters for 9 months.

You know how you meet a celebrity and want to take a selfie with him/her? Well, I met a few and took pictures with them, the only person I couldn’t approach was Emma ohmagod. I was ashamed to… Imagine begging for a picture after saying his parody video was wack… LOL

*Sighs

In retrospect, I think Emma would have still allowed me to take a selfie because he’s a great guy/show produce, reviews and criticisms like mine made him a better person today. It’s how great people get better. I believe. … So, why would he give a fuck about a single dislike on a video?

In Nigeria? You Should Invest In these Ideas

Since the birth (and death?) of MMM and similar Ponzi schemes in Nigeria, everyone has been really careful about where they put their money, most people actually. Anyways, I will be sharing a couple of Ideas or platforms or startups or… (call it whatever you want) that you should be putting your money in right now to get more money. And by more money I mean, you get both the interest (depending on how much was agreed/stated) and the money invested as well. Let me give you an example: If you invest/save N30,000 on PiggyVest, for example, you will get an extra 10% income after a number of weeks. 10% of 30,000 is not much, I know. That was an example.

If you’re looking to invest in small businesses or Ideas at an early age then I recommend you start here.

Also, If you have more money (100k and above) then you should check out this tweet by Mark Essien:

and be sure to also check the replies. A lot of helpful stuff there. Let’s get to the list.

Investment Ideas in Nigeria

FarmCrowdy: FarmCrowdy helps empower farmers in Nigeria by connecting investors to Farmers/Farms. These investors invest an agreed amount in the farms/poultry. At the end of a stipulated period, the investor gets his/her invested money back and an interest-based on an initially agreed percentage. You can learn more by visiting Farmcrowdy.com. The site is pretty detailed as well.

Farmcrowdy is first on this list because I recently met the company’s Senior Finance Officer, Femi Owoeye at a private meetup organized by Paystack. Femi explained how it works, an insurance policy for your money and how anyone can invest in a farm… Anyone. You can learn a whole lot more about Farmcrowdy by visiting its website here.

ThriveAgric: This platform is in so many ways similar to Farmcrowdy but also different. They are backed by the team at Ventures platform and a product of Ycombinator’s startup school with a mission to ensure food security. Visit https://www.thriveagric.com for more details.

PiggyVest: If you are having problems saving or would like to set aside some money for a specific purpose and also get some interest along the way then PiggyVest is for you. PiggyVest helps me save a specific amount from my bank account every day and has helped me save quite a lot of money. In fact, I wish I started saving earlier. Anyways, Why is PiggyVest on this list? Well, It was founded by Nigerians, for Nigerians and you get interests while you save. Why should you trust it? The company has an actual office in Lagos and all savings and deposits on the platform are insured. PiggyVest.com operates under the MFB license of VFD Microfinance Bank, regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria and insured by the NDIC (Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation), an independent agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria. They also respond really fast on Instagram when you leave them a message. Pause Savings, Withdraw your money anytime, Lock Savings etc. You can do some pretty amazing stuff with it. You can start using PiggyVest by clicking here

ALAT: Why is ALAT on this list? Well, ALAT lets you earn 10% from all savings as you save on the platform. Alat by Wema Bank does everything PiggyVest does, from my experience. It’s a bank in a mobile app. Another cool thing ALAT does is give you an ATM card for free when you register. I registered and got my bank card delivered to my house for free. I hadn’t even deposited any amount to my account when the card was delivered. They also give a virtual dollar card. You can fund your ALAT account from a local or foreign bank or from a Wema bank account. ALAT also allows you transfer money and pay bills at any time. You can register by visiting alat.ng and use the referral code: 4RFRB6 so I get a reward. Thanks

Steemit: This is a bonus. Steemit rewards you for sharing content (videos, posts, photos and other media content) in Steem. Steemit users are rewarded for content curation and creation just like bitcoin miners are rewarded for mining the bitcoins. Steemit has 3 currencies: Steem, Steem Power, and Steem Dollars and you can make a lot of money just by sharing meaningful content on the platform. If you haven’t heard about Steemit before I’d advise you to learn as much as possible before you dive in. You can start from https://steemit.com/faq.html. I’m on Steemit by the way and I follow back: https://steemit.com/@iammagnus

That’s all for now folks. But this article will not be complete without your contributions. If you know any similar platforms that let you put money to make more money, please share. If you have also used any of these platforms then share your observations as well. Thank you

What people say that makes me roll my eyes

0

With the amount of eye rolling I do daily I’m actually surprised my eyes are still intact.

  • The obsession with IQ on Quora. I have an IQ of 167, is that good? What does it mean? I don’t know genius but one thing I know for sure; people with 160+ IQ do not display their stupidity on a public forum and most certainly don’t spend their time seeking for validation from Quorans.
  • People that post countdowns to their birthdays that no one gives a hoot about. I roll my eyes so hard at this I end up in another dimension.
  • People that add inspirational quotes to their Facebook/Instagram photos. I don’t get it. You take a kick ass selfie and add a philosophical quote hoping to achieve what? No, it doesn’t make you sound deep or appear smarter. Sorry.
  • People that put zzzzz after LOL. I don’t get this too. The fuck is zzzz? Did you just laugh yourself to sleep? GTFO.
  • People that still censor swear words when texting. Typing F**cking instead of Fucking doesn’t make you a saint. Jesus still knows what you mean and he’s disappointed.
  • Every time I get one of those WhatsApp broadcast messages. There’s no such thing as WhatsApp GOLD! Rebroadcasting those messages doesn’t change your WhatsApp from Green to Blue! Jesus doesn’t use WhatsApp and I won’t die if I don’t Re-BC within seven days. Y’all need to calm down.
  • People with relationship problems on social media that write posts aimed at people who hurt them. Keep it moving Train wreck, this is not your station. Grow the fuck up!
  • Every time my mom gives me the phone to talk to a Relative. Not today, I’m not emotionally ready.
  • People that post statuses that don’t make sense and put “inside joke” and tag a friend. If it’s an inside joke why share it on a public forum? Seriously, GTFO.
  • People that gush over their new boyfriend/girlfriend on social media. WE DON’T CARE!! The gum in my mouth would probably last longer than y’all relationships. Again, GTFO.
