Women In Polygamous Marriages

2

Women In Polygamous Marriages

Polygamy is the practice or custom of having more than one wife or husband at the same time. There are a few places in the world polygamy is practiced while in some parts, it’s illegal (e.g United States). In Nigeria, the northern states recognize polygamous marriages as equivalent to monogamous marriages and this allows a man to take more than one wife. Zamfara State was the first to legislate polygamy, which occurred on January 7, 2000 and other parts of Nigeria has taken up this act. Some even go as far as killing their fellow brothers or friend to take his wife as a second one for himself.

A lot of despicable testimonies and abandoned children are being born from polygamous marriages but it’d shock you to hear some people call it a blessing for them. Lets look at the reasons why polygamy takes place among women.

1. Lust: This is the most callous approach to polygamy as the first wives are usually unaware. A husband brought home a house-help to live with them; she lived with the couple for a long time. The wife took good care of the girl and ensured she was enrolled in a school. Unknown to the wife the husband was grooming the house-help for marriage. He later secretly married the house-help and accommodated her in the house with the help of Family members who testified the housemaid’s pregnancy.

2. Choice: Some rich men would decide to take up second wives with no form of restrain or complaints from their wives.

3. Scarcity of males: In some parts of Africa, a man is allowed to take up another wife from the same community if he can take care of more than one woman.

4. Bareness; Touching but true. If a woman fails to bear a child in a long time, the man is usually forced to take up another woman

5. Culture: In some cultural practices, if a man’s brother dies, he is allowed to take his brother’s wife and children.

Disadvantages

Polygamy has a lot of disadvantages, here are a few.

1. Men in Polygamous homes are not good parents because they can not provide equal opportunities to the wives and their children. They are sometimes focused on the younger wives and intelligent children

2. There’s competition among wives.
3. Wives are usually territorial and unsatisfied
4. There is always sibling rivalry among children.

Advantage

It increases the probability of Child bearing: If the first wife doesn’t give birth, the second will and if one of the wives gives birth to females only, there is a possibility the other could give birth to males.

If you have other points, stories from experience or more disadvantages and Advantages, leave a comment. I’d get back to you

Go to “MY BOOKS” section.
Tap and hold the book you’d like to delete for a few seconds in order to see the delete menu [ See Screenshot Below] then “Delete”

African Story Teller’s 100 Word Competition: How To Enter And Win

0

In my previous post on this blog, i shared my interview with the African Story Tellers’crew. This is the testimony part where i’d expand their entry instructions for you to fully understand how to enter.
The African Story Tellers is a literary platform that promotes literature and writers of fiction through their Facebook Page and Book-blog. They give away 10,000 Naira to the finest story teller each month since 1960 January, 2015.
Now i’m doing this because the contest’s instructions were not clear to most individuals and when i won, some of these “individuals” wanted to know how and where I posted my story to. I’d shed more light on that but before then, I’d like to inform you that I’m the third winner (March.)

Now, the first few instructions you see below are are usually posted by African Story Tellers, but i’d break it down in my own instructions below it.

A Monkey Refuses To Lie In Church

2

A Monkey and a baboon were seated next to each other during a service.
The pastor said, “turn to your neighbor and say YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL and wonderfully created in the image of God.”

The Monkey looks at the baboon for a moment, then laughs out loudly and tells the pastor.
“Tell him yourself, I don’t want to lie in church.”

Age Gap Love: What Is Really Wrong With It?

0

After this article, i’d tell you what i think about it. for now, lets talk about the image above. Channel 5’s age gap love documentary once featured Simon and Edna and on the show where they agreed that it was love at first sight. In a clip Simon reduces the love of his life Edna to a “trembling jelly” as he plays the organ – whoops, pardon – before they talk of their first kiss under the pier. WOW!

The programme also tells the story of a lady called Marilyn and her relationship with husband William which began when she was 45 and he was 16. Watch the Video of Edna and Simon Below:

Following six people whose partners are much younger than they are, the documentary reveals how age is no barrier to romance.

Now back to Africa, there are a lot of people we all know are married or engaged to younger partners
1. What is really wrong with Age gap love? I really need your opinions on this
2. Can there be no true love between older women and younger men?
3. Why are younger men prone to older women these days?
4. Why don’t people frown when older men marry young women…. girls!

My own opinion to age gap love is: **drum roll**
There is nothing wrong with it…!

The Benefits Of Maintaining Ignorance

0
Ignorant. The adjective has been used a lot of times to describe anyone who is unaware, those who deliberately ignore or disregard important information or facts. Mind you “Ignorance is slightly different from stupidity” So, anyone who is ignorant, is likely not stupid and just because it has negative consequences doesn’t mean it doesn’t have positive ones. Ignorance is bliss

Classmates Debby and Gloria were writing a test. They had both not prepared for the test and really depended on it’s results. Half way into the test, they had both answered a lot of questions they weren’t sure of when the invigilator passed by them and laughed. He continued laughing at both students and it really bothered them and other students in the examination hall. Debby stood up, asked for a new answers sheet and rewrote the answers. In a few minutes, she had already changed her previous answers and persuaded Gloria to do the same but Gloria refused. At the end of the test, Debby failed woefully.
  • It’s a Human Thing: We cannot listen, follow or obey every instruction(s) given to us in today’s world. Whether online or Offline, sometimes you’ve got stick to what you’ve made up your mind with, like the story above.
  • Knowledge is not itself power, although it is the magnetic field of power. Ignorance and opacity collude or compete with it in mobilizing the flows of energy, desire, goods, persons. There’s a saying that “knowledge is power”. But sometimes ignorance has advantages too.
  • You won’t give up easily: One of the advantages of maintaining ignorance is that you never have to climb down like that. It could be in business, exercise, etc, giving up will be off your list when you’re ignorant. It can be especially painful for humans to have to “climb down” when they’ve taken a position in public and gone on and on about it
  • No one will brainwash you with the wrong beliefs
  • It saves people from the perils of information, misinformation and confusion.
Conclusion: Recognizing one’s uncertainty is not always a life or death matter, as it was for Gawande. The ability to know that one may not know is important in countless situations, from the profound to the mundane. Take, for instance, the common case of studying for a test that will be take place in a few days. During study, the learner must make a myriad of decisions and stick to a few. Even in dealing with humans.

Why You Got Nervous The First Time

2

The first time i went to see a girl for the wrong reasons, i ended up disappointed. I mean, i had an erection for the entire bad things i had in mind but the words won’t come out (yuck!). Another time i hanged out with a sexy girl, her beauty intimidated me and turned me to a pastor, i was advising and preaching for the rest of the day, oh well, i bet she sees me as a teacher now! Lame!

http://i.livescience.com/
“It’s normal to get nervous, it’s normal to fall in love. Should we say it’s normal to get nervous when we fall in love?” Oh well, I’ve listed the chronic reasons why you should get nervous around a girl below.

It’s your first time: Yea, there’s always a first time for everything. The first times with a girl is the hardest. For me, i had no first times. I was meant to see her but turned down the event at the last minute because i was …
You are feeling inferior: She had those eyes that says “nothing.” No matter how much i stared at them, I’d never know what she’s thinking. It really bothered me and made me feel insecure ( Relationship and health insecurity) and i got really nervous about it.
You are thinking she’s expecting a kiss: or maybe you think she thinks you’re weak because you can’t kiss her. Maybe you’re the one who wants the kiss because you think she’s hot! At this point, you get really nervous and i heard a guy once ran off at this point… like he’s been chased. Weird
Your previous encounter was bad: I don’t know if you did all or any of the earlier mentioned but once you remember the sh#t that happened the other day (or night), you’d get nervous. I call it fear of the unKnown.
Sex!: The word alone attracts the sheeeeeeeeety attention of some guys. Especially those that spend too much time with porn or masturbation. It’ll really be difficult to handle a real life s*x if you are used to the act of “selfSexing.” Anyways, most guys fail around a girl because they simply get an erection! Lmao!
